Tres Noir Handmade Optics was born when two brothers wanted to create a sunglass brand that fit their needs for style and quality. They also wanted to create a brand that fit their lifestyle and reflected a more real, gritty, side of so-cal culture, including art, music, kustom cars, motorcycles, surfing and skating.

Taking their combined 8 years in the sunglass industry the boys created the first pair of Tres Noir's, the Police & Thieves. They were sold to friends in 2005. Selling out in a matter of weeks, the idea of starting a complete collection became a feasible reality. After years of developing eyewear for other sunglass brands it was time to take their own styles to the public.

They introduced a collection of handmade acetate frames. All styles and colors in the collection were to be produced in limited quantities. The collection would provide unique but classic sunglasses. A sunglass that was not mass-produced was the Tres Noir vision. Feasting on a heavy diet of Southern California culture, the brand came to life.

Running the company out of a garage in Long Beach, CA, Tres Noir introduced its first collection in spring 2006, the reaction and the demand of the product was overwhelming.

In spring 2007, Tres Noir launched their 2nd collection and moved its headquarters out of the garage and into the current office and warehouse in Anaheim, CA. Gracing the faces of some of the top bands, artists, and scensters, Tres Noir became a noticeable player in the sunglass industry.

The brand is currently carried across the United States and internationally in Japan, Australia, and throughout Europe.
